Melges Asia Pacific

In October 2006, Northshore Yachting, trading as Melges Asia Pacific signed an exclusive license agreement with Melges Performance Sailboats to build and distribute the Melges 24 — the world’s premiere high-performance, one design sportboat throughout Australia and the Asia Pacific market. Northshore Yachting also serves as a sales and distribution center for the Melges 32.

Designed by Reichel Pugh Yacht Design, the Melges 24 is among the most popular racing yachts in the world, as is the Melges 32. Making Melges boats more accessible to the Asia Pacific sailor has been a long-held desire of Harry Melges, CEO of Melges Performance Sailboats.

“In choosing our Asia Pacific partner, we wanted to work with a company that not only shared our commitment to quality and craftsmanship, but also shared our passion for sailing and developing strong fleets — locally and internationally,” Melges says. “Quite clearly, we have found such a partner with the team at Northshore.”

Regardless of boat, Melges Asia Pacific aims to ensure the highest level of customer service and support. The combination of a knowledgeable and experienced boat building staff from one of Australia’s largest-producing boat builders and Melges’ phenomenal line of sportboat products means they are able to provide the total Melges Ownership Experience — down under and throughout Asia direct from Newport.

Heath Walters, managing director of Northshore Yachting, a company best known for building the Northshore range of yachts, believes that one of the key attractions of the Melges 24 and Melges 32 classes are their international appeal.

“The Asia Pacific sailing scene has always been keen on sportboats, but no single design has been able to gain class size beyond their own countries,” says Walters. “The Melges 24 is a class that has established a strong presence within the United States and Europe, which in turn will allow sailors within our local market to enjoy such a boat, simultaneously racing them on the international circuit. The same is true for the Melges 32.”
