Day One in Portoferraio Was All Pecceré
2 June 2012
June 2 (Portoferraio, Italy) - A total of four races were completed on opening day of the second act of the Audi Melges 20 Sailing Series, held in Portoferraio from June 2nd to Sunday 3rd. TOP TEN RESULTS (Provisional, After 4 Races)
Twenty-four boats from five different nations were delighted by the gentle breeze blowing from Southeast at 12-15 knots. In the end, the provisional rankings awarded Mirko De Falco's Pecceré (now 9-2-3-7) and tactician Guglielmo Giordano, who sailed at their best coming out with their secret weapon. "Four beautiful races with perfect weather," said De Falco once ashore. "We are delighted with our performance and hope to do as well tomorrow, while maintaining the same level. We are a crew that has raced together for a long time and should not be underestimated at the beginning season."
The provisional podium is completed by European Champions Guido Miani aboard Audi Out of Reach (Miani-Benussi-Sabadin, 7-5-12-1) and the rookie, Mascalzone Latino Jr (18-3-2-4) with Achille Onorato, Lorenzo Bressani and Federico Michetti on board. A. Onorato had a lackluster start, but are candidates for the final success, special thanks to a discard, that is valid from when six regattas are completed. "I cannot be anything but satisfied, beyond all expectations" said a smiling A. Onorato. "It is the first time I have helmed this wonderful one design boat and I had a lot of fun. I am really impressed with the high level of competition in the fleet. Moreover, for us Mascalzone, there is a challenge within a challenge. On this occasion, my father and I compete one against the other. We both would like to do well in Portoferraio because we are at home in Elba."
Scrolling the provisional ranking, on the forth place there is Renato Vallivero's Turnover (16-4-1-3, Perazzo-Fonda-Vallivero). The rulers of the starting act of the Audi Sailing Series in Loano confirmed their strength, just ahead ofMascalzone Latino of Onorato-Wilmot-Savelli.
