Audi Melges 20 Gets Back To Sailing In Viareggio

Viareggio, Italy - After a long summer break that followed the success of Alessio Marinelli’s Candida Sailing Team in Malcesine, traditional location of the third leg of the Audi Saling Series, all Audi Melges 20 are now ready to unroll sails and race again.

Viareggio is the penultimate act of the Audi Sailing Series 2012 and Turnover, owned by Renato Vallivero with Marco Perazzo as helmsman and Enrico Fonda as tactician, will attempt to defend his lead from the attacks of a large group of opponents. Twenty-five teams are expected to be on the starting line.

Moreover, the fourth event is critical as Audi Melges 20 teams set their sights and official begin to warm-up for the Gold Cup. It will be the most important appointment of the season, taking place in Naples on November 1-4, 2012.

New friends join the Melges 20 fleet for this event. Stefano Sacchi on Jingle3 will have Francesco Bianchi and the Federica Salvà on board. Margherita, helmed by Roberto Mazzucato (with Matteo Ivaldi and Alessandro Banci), and Spirit of Nerina (Andrea Ferrari-Andrea Felci-Mirko Bargolini) return to great racing in Viareggio.

On Saturday, day one of racing, the warning signal will display at 10.30 taking advantage of the light breeze. The weekend will consist of a maximum of six heats.

The Viareggio edition of the Audi Melges 20 Sailing Series is organized by B-Plan Sport & Events in collaboration with the International Class Melges 20 Class Association, Melges Europe and Club Nautico Versilia.

In addition to Audi, the Audi Sailing Series is supported by the official timekeeper Eberhard & Co watches and Musto, the official technical supplier.
