Audi Sailing Series - 2013 Sailing Season Overview

Milan, March 27, 2013 – Organized by B-Plan Sport & Events agency, thanks Audi for your strong and continued support as the main sponsor. The Audi Sailing Series is ready to start its sailing season.
Encouraged by the great media success last year, the Audi Melges 20 and Melges 32 circuits are two of the most successful one-design classes in the U.S. and Europe. The series will begin mid April in Gaeta, Italy.
The Audi Melges 32 sailing series will officially start in Geata, Italy April 12-14, while the first Audi Melges 20 series will begin the following weekend from April 20-21st.
The season will continue with Event No. 2 in Porto Ercole, where the Melges 32 fleet will race May 10 – 12, with the Audi Melges 20s set to compete May 18 -19. Event No. 3 of the series is set for May 31 – June 2 in Portoferraio (last year’s sailing stage) and the Audi Melges 20s will race June 8 – 9, 2013.
The Audi Melges 20s will sail on the Garda Lake, in Torbole July 6 – 7, and the Audi Melges 32s will sail the following week happening July 12 – 14.
The most decisive stages will be the last events scheduled on the calendar. In Porto Rotondo, the Yacht Club Porto Rotondo together with the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda will work closely with B-plan Sport & Events on event organization.
The last regattas on the schedule for the year will be of major importance since they will assign the European title to the Audi Melges 20 Class happening August 29 – September 1st and the Audi Melges 32 class September 18 – 22nd.
B-Plan Sport & Events also manages the Audi Ultra Team activities, the Melges 24 owned by Riccardo Simoneschi, placed third at the World Series in Torbole and achieved a well deserved victory in the Class World and European Rankings, and opened up the 2013 sailing season with a 1st place finish at the Bacardi Miami Sailing Week.
Back from the first U.S. stage, the Simoneschi team composed of tactician Enrico Fonda, Trimmer Vittorio Rosso, Pitman Federico Buscaglia and Bowman Lucia Giorgetti will be participating in the first edition of the Melges 24 European Sailing Series this year.
The managing leaders of the Class have chosen the following stages: Lake Balaton (April 26 - 28), Kiel (June 22 – 26), Torbole (July 26 – 28), Medemblick (August 16 – 24) and Hanko (September 6 – 8).
The Audi Ultra Team will also be competing at the Rolex Big Boat regatta happening September 26 – 29 and the Melges 24 World Championship happening September 30 – October 5th in San Francisco.
