De Antonio’s Bribon-Movistar Dominates In Torbole

13 July 2013

Torbole, Italy - The fourth leg of the 2013 Audi Melges 32 Sailing Series is full speed ahead in Torbole. Nineteen teams representing nine nations enjoyed very similar conditions as yesterday that allowed a brilliant Race Committee to successfully run three races, bringing the total to six complete, enabling a discard to go into effect.

The Ora wind blew up to 18 knots creating a tricky, short and quick wave which many teams had a hard time coping with, especially on the downwind runs under spinnaker testing their stamina and steering to their fullest extent.

Again it was Marc de Antonio’s Bribon-Movistar delivering a beautiful 2-5-2 scoreline maintaining the lead by an impressive 13 points. In second overall is Roberto Tomasini Grinover’s Robertissima 1, gaining seven positions up from ninth place in Friday’s results. Jason Carroll on Argo holds firm in third. Filippo Pacinotti’s Brontolo HH finished the day in fourth.

Among the upper ranking teams is Series leader Lanfranco Cirillo’s Fantastica getting back on track on Saturday to round out the top five. He is in strong control of other tough competitors such as Andrea Pozzi’s Bombarda (in twelfth), seventh overall Vincenzo Onorato’s Mascalzone Latino and ninth place finisher Edoardo Lupi on Torpyone.

Saturday’s races were followed with particular attention by Anna, Mattia and Alessandro, "butterfly children" supported by Debra Sudtirol. The non-profit organization founded in 2004 aims to assist "butterfly children" affected by Epidermolysis Bullosa. Thanks to the cooperation of B.Plan Sport&Events and Melges Europe, these youngsters enjoyed together with their families an open air day in close contact with the sailing world and high-profile Melges 32 teams.

Racing continues on Sunday with anticipation of the final two races of the eight part Torbole edition Series. Torbole is organized by BPSE B.Plan Sports & Events in full coordination with the IM32CA and Melges Europe.
